Over a Decade of Restoration at 225 Whitford Road
We're excited to share our progress at the Charles Thomas House located at 225 Whitford Road, a bucolic, wooded five-acre property in a prime location in the heart of Exton, featuring 22 residences across four buildings.
We purchased the Charles Thomas House over 11 years ago. This building, originally built in 1878, is on the federal historic registry and was the main dwelling for the 245 acre Thomas family farm. It was designed by prominent architect of the time Addison Hutton, and is an exquisite example from the Victorian period.
The buildings were in urgent need of renovation and required a complete reimagining of the living spaces. In a prior life, the site had served as a housing facility for a nonprofit, leaving many of the units small, awkwardly configured, and ill-suited to modern living. We restored the buildings inside and out, reconfiguring the interiors into functional, contemporary residences while carefully preserving the significant detailed trim, ornate plasterwork, fireplaces, and other original features found throughout.
Our most recent upgrades include:
A new entrance pergola and fresh landscaping in front of the carriage house
A newly landscaped stone wall entrance, featuring a circular stone wall and ornamental tree in front of the mansion
A serene patio with lounge seating and a fire pit, overlooking the mansion and the rolling Chester County hillsides
A cluster of carriage house–style detached garages, along with a much-needed newly paved parking lot and a streamlined trash enclosure
Much of the property has now been restored to the architectural significance it once offered the community, and it has been deeply rewarding for our team to watch residents and neighbors embrace it. We're grateful for the opportunity to make an impact here and to serve as caretakers of such a historically significant place.
