The Diplomat Selected as Finalist in 2026 Gold Key Hospitality Awards

Philadelphia, PA — Core Development is proud to announce that The Diplomat has been selected a finalist in two categories of Boutique Design's 2026 Gold Key Awards, one of the most respected honors in hospitality design for 46 years.

A jury of industry leaders reviewed more than 440 properties from around the world and named The Diplomat, a partnership between Core Development and Host Aid, as a finalist for the categories of “Hotel Budget/Select Service” and “Guestroom Budget/Select Service.”

The Diplomat was the only independent project selected, competing against Hyatt Place and Marriott properties.

The design inspiration behind this Old City gem was Benjamin Franklin, America’s original diplomat, whose curiosity and intellectual zest provided plenty of fodder for The Diplomat’s richly layered and brilliantly coded interiors.

In addition to practical luxuries such as fully stocked kitchens and in-unit laundry, The Diplomat offers an exciting stay for the intellect, as well.

“We had fun with our own readings of ‘diplomacy’ – a boxing match, a tightrope walker mid-step, wild animals in standoff. Nothing literal, nothing themed,” sharers Carmen Cárdenas, co-founder of Brooklyn’s Studio MaRō, who designed the property.  “The result is a layered, colorful, slightly playful environment that rewards the observant guest – a property built for curious hearts and minds.”

The award winners will be announced next month at the Gold Key Awards Gala in New York City.
